Today Illinois passed a civil unions bill that would help gay and lesbian establish a civil union. The vote for the measure was 61-52 but this is not victory yet for same sex couples, as the bill now moves to the State Senate. Still, for now the bill is expected to also be passed on the Senate.
The bill is called Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act and it was a bill co-sponsored by openly gay Rep. Greg Harris. Gov. Patrick Quinn also promised to sign the bill into law
