Record pork production for August

Commercial red meat production during August was up 4% on the year at 4.303 billion pounds, according to USDA, with a record monthly high for pork.
Pork came out at 1.892 billion pounds, a 4% increase from August 2010, with the slaughter up 5% to 9.527 million head offsetting a one pound decline in the average live weight at 266 pounds.
Beef was reported at 2.387 billion pounds, 4% more than a year ago, with the kill 5% larger than last year at 3.097 million head and the average live weight
