Texas cow herd estimated down 12 percent

Texas has been experiencing the worst drought in its history—and it has led to the largest ever one-year decline in the state’s cow herd.
David Anderson, who monitors beef markets for the Texas Agri-Life Extension Service, estimates the number of cows in Texas has declined by about 600-thousand head since January 1st of this year. That represents a 12 percent decline from the roughly five million cows the state had at the beginning of the year.
