The Veterans Affairs Department has made today the first ever “National Rural Health Day”. It’s designed to bring awareness to the mission of the V-A Office of Rural Health – “to improve access and quality of care for the 6.1 million Veterans living in rural areas.” The V-A says less than half of those veterans are enrolled in the V-A system. A higher proportion of rural men and women have served in the military than suburban or urban folks.
