The big question heading into Friday’s hogs and pigs report was whether pork producers—in response to two years of good profits—would begin expanding production in 2012.
The answer appears to be “no”.
University of Missouri ag economist Ron Plain points to the March through May farrowing intentions, which are projected to be one percent less than the previous year. Plain says that’s a good sign that producers are showing restraint.
